Beyond Sunset Boulevard

One great film you missed, and why it works.

Beyond Sunset Boulevard is for people who know there are great films still hiding in plain sight.

Every Thursday, I pick one overlooked, underseen or underappreciated film and make the case for why it works, through its characters, writing, performances and craft.

Think you love Heat but somehow haven’t seen Thief. You know Paul Newman but never got around to Hud. You want better films to watch, but you don’t want film-school homework or another list of whatever happens to be trending.

Each edition starts spoiler-free. I’ll tell you why the film is worth your time and where you can watch it.

Then, if you’ve already seen it, or once you have, we go deeper.

No star ratings. No awards-season churn. No celebrity news.

Just one great film you missed, and why it works.

I’m Gianni Magliocco, a writer and editor with more than a decade of professional publishing experience.

New edition every Thursday.
